Yes, my website end is near. I’ve been writing blog posts and blog articles since 2006 and I’ve had enough of this nonsense. I should have ended it sooner. My priorities changed years ago, probably as early as 2015.
Blogging, writing, or whatever you want to call it, is still a worthwhile endeavor. That is, if you have a targeted niche. Though some people dislike it, WordPress is still worth using.
I can’t say exactly when, but it will happen this year. I have no desire to continue writing. In fact, this is most likely the last thing I will write here. So… if you’re following this website in any way, it’s probably a good idea to stop following.
This is a personal website. I never intended it to be anything else.
I started blogging at a different domain name in 2006. It started out as something for fun, something to pass the time after I retired to the Philippines. After that site started getting popular, I started monetizing it with Google AdSense and a couple of other advertisers. I experimented with sponsored posts and got smacked by Google in rankings.
I bought this domain name in 2011. Eventually, I migrated anything worth keeping from that blog to this website and dropped that domain name in 2013. Most of what I’ve been writing since then has been tech-oriented or has had something to do with my life in the Philippines.
I’ve been writing less and less new stuff. Rewriting and condensing instead of thinking of new material. My heart just isn’t in it.
I have lots of ideas but none of them involve writing 300 or more words per page somewhere. As I mentioned on the front page, I once wrote something somewhere every day of the week. I don’t have the energy I had back then. I retired to the Philippines when I was 45. Now I’m 58.
I have a new retirement plan, even if it’s only temporary. My wife, Josie, and I will be visiting our sons’ families most of the time and taking periodic trips back to the Philippines. We were in Florida from June 2018 to March 2019. We’ve been in Hawaii since then. If I have my way, we’ll return to the Philippines for a few months starting in late 2020.
We own a house (she owns a house) in Olongapo. We own a car, sitting in the carport of that house. A few more earthquakes like the one that occurred there yesterday, and we might not have either by the time we decide to return.
Ending this website has nothing to do with money. Even the little I make from Google is still more than I’m spending for the domain name every year and monthly web hosting combined.
I really don’t know where I’ll go from here. If I do something new, I’ll be sure to post news about it somewhere. Maybe I just need a long break before deciding anything at all.
