Walnuts, Nitric Oxide and Omega-3 Fatty Acids

There’s so much most people are unaware of when it comes to how their bodies function. I’ve studied various biological functions for years. One of the things I’ve learned recently is that walnuts are a perfect food source. I don’t like walnuts but I’ve added a daily serving to my daily diet, usually after dinner. Walnuts have a high concentration of the L-Arginine amino acid, which metabolizes into nitric oxide. Walnuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids, something that’s found mostly in fish.

Walnuts and Nitric Oxide

Nitric oxide is probably most important in vasodilation, which means it helps widen blood vessels and aids in circulation.

Nitric oxide helps regulate blood flow and blood pressure. Sildenafil citrate (known by the trade name of Viagra) stimulates erections by enhancing signaling through the nitric oxide pathway in the penis. If you’re a nitric oxide deficient male, sildenafil citrate won’t do a thing for you.

I’m interested in nitric oxide for a different reason. My lower left leg has poor circulation because of injuries to the ankle and knee over the years. It tends to swell for no obvious reason. An abundance of nitric oxide might reverse that effect.

Walnuts and Omega-3 Fatty Acids

According to one website, walnuts rank at number 21 for total Omega-3 fatty acids. There’s a few things above them on the list, mostly fish, that I know I can’t find in the Philippines. So why bother? I found walnuts the first time I looked for them.

Oh, I could probably buy the supplements necessary for both nitric acid and omega-3 fatty acids, but that would only target those specific items. If I want to exercise good nutrition, I have to target everything and it’s just easier by eating and drinking the stuff I know is good for me.


Food and Drink I’m Purposely Consuming

I found a list of 20 foods that increase nitric oxide production naturally and I’m trying to add as much of those items to my daily diet as possible. I can’t have everything on the list and some of it I can only find in juice form. Not only that, but if I consumed everything on the list, I’d never stop eating and drinking.

I’m good with watermelon, pomegranate (in juice form), walnuts, spinach, cranberries (in juice form), onions and peanut butter. The rest are iffy. I haven’t had black tea in a while because I can’t drink that much liquid in a day. Garlic seems to be in everything the people around me are cooking, so that isn’t an issue. It’s hard to get a hold of the rest without doing a lot of extra searching while shopping. I hate shopping.

I’ve heard that vegetarians live up to nine years longer than people who eat meat regularly. Nine worthless, bacon-less years. Even if bacon and other food and drink are bad for me, it doesn’t matter. I want to enjoy what I eat and drink at least part of the time. I don’t enjoy eating only what’s good for me. I don’t enjoy walnuts either.
