The Two Famous Breakfast Sandwich Clones My Wife Makes

breakfast sandwichWhile the “famous” aspect of these sandwiches can be debated, the various flavors cannot. I’m talking about the breakfast sandwiches made by McDonald’s and Jack in the Box. I’m not concerned with the competing sandwiches from the other “fast food” places because we don’t make clone versions of them.

My wife, Josie, worked at a McDonald’s once and a Jack in the Box a couple of times. Not for very long, of course, and it was back in the eighties when she was young.

The Sausage McMuffin

While the Egg McMuffin is a McDonald’s signature breakfast sandwich, I’ve never actually seen anyone order anything other than the Sausage McMuffin. A slice of sausage seems to have more substance to it than a slice of Canadian bacon.

Josie buys the Johnsonville breakfast sausage patties almost every time we take a trip to the commissary at Schofield Barracks. She also buys English muffins, although the brand isn’t important. We prefer sourdough bread, but plain works just as well.

Josie’s Sausage McMuffin clone consists of one piece of flattened (in the skillet) sausage, one fried egg and one slice of American cheese sandwiched between two halves of an English muffin. I usually eat two at a time.

The Breakfast Jack

The Breakfast Jack isn’t a signature sandwich for Jack in the Box, even if I think it should be. Jack in the Box isn’t everywhere like McDonald’s. I don’t even think it’s as prevalent as Burger King.

Josie’s Breakfast Jack clone consists of a slice of ham (Oscar Mayer chopped ham, I think), a fried egg and a slice of cheese sandwiched between two halves of a hamburger bun. Again, I usually eat two at a time.

Other Fast Food Places

Burger King has the Croissan’wich and that’s about all I know. I’m sure places like Wendy’s and Carl’s Jr. have something for breakfast, but I’ve never had breakfast at either one.

I understand Taco Bell has a waffle taco, but I’ve never had one. The closest thing I’ve had to it is a pancake sandwich from Jollibee in the Philippines.

Other than breakfast foods, I’m not a big fan of fast food places anyway. I can’t even name them all. Wikipedia has a list, but I refuse to look at it for very long.

I don’t know much about the latest burger and breakfast wars, but I remember one of the burger wars and “a Whopper under a dollar”. I also remember one of the breakfast wars where every sandwich was a dollar (more or less). I can remember eating a lot of Breakfast Jacks, Sausage McMuffins and Croissan’wiches, but I don’t remember when.

I admit I’m a breakfast person more than a lunch or dinner person. As long as I have a good breakfast, I don’t care about the rest of the day.
