Tears for Fears – The Only Three Songs I Like from this Duo

Tears for Fears The only songs I like by the duo of “Tears for Fears” come from one single album, “Songs from the Big Chair”. Believe it or not, it took me years to buy that album on compact disc.

My wife, Josie, and I married at the beginning of 1985. We also had a child in 1985. I’m surprised I remember anything at all about that year that didn’t pertain to our personal lives.

When she was in the later months of pregnancy, we spent a lot of time watching TV and a lot of that time was watching MTV. Even so, I don’t remember any music videos for “Tears for Fears”. I do remember them from when they appeared on VH1 later on. Still, those memories are vague.

Tears for Fears

The first time I heard “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was toward the end of the 1985 movie, “Real Genius”. The Wikipedia page for the movie mentions it was on the soundtrack but the page for the song doesn’t.

The first time I heard “Head Over Heels” was in the 2001 movie, “Donnie Darko”. Well, I may have heard it before that but I just don’t remember. According to the Wikipedia page for the movie, the scene that used the song was specifically choreographed for it.

I saw both movies on one cable movie channel or another. I’m sure I saw “Real Genius” on HBO because it was the only movie channel I could afford from 1985 through 1987. I think I rented the other. I’ve seen “Real Genius” dozens of times over the years, so I’ve obviously heard “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears dozens of times.

“Sowing the Seeds of Love” was released in 1989 and it was a hit but for some reason, it didn’t impress me enough to keep a copy of it. I still don’t have a copy of it in my music collection.
