Sunburn Pain from Swimming at the Beach - I Forgot How Much It Hurts

sunburn We don’t go to the beach very often and I certainly don’t go swimming very often. I think our family trip to the beach yesterday was the first time for me in over a year. I have a bad sunburn to show for it.

Yesterday was my mother-in-law’s 83rd birthday. Our family party consisted of more than family.

Sunburn Pain

I don’t go swimming every time I go to the beach. I think the last time was in 2016, at the Driftwood beach resort. We were at the same spot yesterday.

When I went swimming in 2016, I didn’t even get a mild sunburn. This time, I got a bad sunburn. Not a severe sunburn but painful nonetheless. I wasn’t in the water for more than two hours. I guess my old tan finally wore off completely.

If I had even a hint that I was going to get a sunburn, I would have bought a sunscreen or sunblock ahead of time. I can remember swimming for longer than three hours and not burning. Maybe age has something to do with it. But then…

I may have been the only white guy to get sunburned but I wasn’t the only person to get sunburned. Most of my nieces and nephews got sunburned. The only ones who didn’t burn were the ones who didn’t stay in the water long (I seem to remember two).

Treating My Sunburn

If it was a severe sunburn, I would have to use some pain-relieving lotion or something. It wasn’t that severe. I can feel it on my upper back and shoulders and little on my face. I now have broken water blisters on my forehead, my nose and my ear lobes. I’ll be right as rain in a few days.

Well, I certainly hope so. My wife, daughter-in-law and I are leaving for Manila in two days. If I’m still suffering from anything, even itching, it’ll be a miserable trip for me.
