My first thought when hearing about S&R Membership Shopping, was that it was a franchise from the United States. I thought wrong. It’s patterned after warehouse membership stores in the United States but that’s as far as it goes.
If you’ve ever been a member of Costco, Sam’s Club or others, you know what I’m talking about. There isn’t one close to me (unless you consider 50 kilometers close). With S&R New York Style Pizza, well, that’s a different story.
The first one opened up at the outer ring of the Pure Gold building at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The second one opened up in the Harbor Point mall, also at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
I’ve eaten food made at both. Sometimes I eat at one of them and sometimes someone else brings something back for me.
A couple of days ago, me and my entourage (my wife, Josie, and four others) watched “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” at the mall cinema. We all chowed down on a large combo pizza at the mall pizza place afterward.
There are only four good pizza joints (counting both S&Rs as one) and I consider their pizza the best of the four. The others are Pizza Hut, Greenwich and Shakey’s. The rest of the pizza joints suck to no end.
I’m not a member yet and I may never be one. The closest S&R Membership Shopping store is in San Fernando, Pampanga. It’s about 50 kilometers or 30 miles from here, give or take a few of either.
The SM City Olongapo mall is just a few kilometers from me, about the same distance as the Harbor Point mall. If I can’t find what I’m looking for at either of those places, I might be able to find it at S&R. For some reason, I seriously doubt it.
Perhaps I’ll apply for a membership card online and then plan a trip to San Fernando after the rainy season is over. It’s not even in the top 100 on my list of priorities, so I won’t be mentioning it again anytime soon.
