Seals and Croft – Soft Rock from the 1970s
There are only three songs I like from this pair. I can’t really put my finger on the reason (or reasons) why.
The only reason I like these particular songs is because they’ve been used in other places, like movies and commercial advertisements (usually modified to fit the products).
I was Young and not quite Impressionable
I was never into soft rock, even long after reaching adulthood. Except… I used it to put myself to sleep at night – one radio station or another would play soft rock oldies. Seals and Crofts was one of many I used to listen to.
The first two songs (below) came out when I was in middle school (called Junior High where I lived) and I was between the ages of 11 and 13. The third one came out when I was in high school.
I would have never picked this music on purpose. Everyone, it seemed, wanted everyone else to appreciate their music choices. They would blare it out in public places, like the beach picnic areas my family used to go to when we lived in Hawaii.
Summer Breeze – 1972
The last time I heard this (before stumbling upon it on YouTube), it was a track played in the movie version of “Land of the Lost” in 2009.
Diamond Girl – 1973
Get Closer – 1976
Most modern recording artists have official videos uploaded to YouTube. There are no official videos for a lot of the older recording artists. Some of them aren’t official but I’ll choose the official versions when they’re available.
It’s inevitable that some of the embedded videos will disappear from YouTube for one reason or another. I’ve seen official videos taken down by the companies that uploaded them (something to do with automated piracy checks). I’ll replace the embedded videos when I can, once I find they’ve been removed from YouTube (there’s no automated way for me to check, so it could be a while unless someone points them out to me).
