When I wrote “Transportation in Olongapo City and the Subic Bay area“, I didn’t go over anything about private transportation. There are private transportation services available but they’re private, if you know what I mean. The only way you’re going to know about them is if someone tells you about them. Unlike commercial transportation services, it isn’t publicly advertised because then it can be construed as commercial.
When I wrote that other article, I still owned a car. I sold that car to pay the hospital and medical expenses for my mother-in-law, who had to have brain surgery (really). I won’t be without a “personal” vehicle in the Philippines, however, because Josie, my wife, is working on becoming a taxi owner.
Dexter Ognita, who resides in Olongapo, is a former overseas Filipino worker who spent some time in the United States. He’s renting his 2015 Toyota Innova and wants to serve tourists, expats and balikbayans and work with the local hotels and establishments.
Here is his contact details:
Mobile: 0932-213-1386 (Sun)
His fee includes him being he driver.
There are other transportation services just like his, and I used to have one on the website I closed, but I lost that information when I deleted the database (without realizing what I had done). If you or someone you know is offering a service like that, please contact me.
When I first moved to the Philippines, I didn’t see many commercial-type vehicles being used as private transportation, but the number seemed to increase a lot over the span of about five years.
I now see people using jeepneys and trikes as private, personal transportation. In fact, I see it a lot. And why not? Older jeepneys and trikes are a lot less expensive than cars, trucks and vans. It’s the body tags for them that makes them expensive since new body tags are no longer being issued.
Commercial jeepneys and trikes are not allowed at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. However… if there aren’t any body tags on them and they’re marked as “Private”, they can get in.
