Politics and Political Correctness in the United States

February 2, 2017

If anyone wonders why I don’t write as much as I used to write, it’s because I avoid the online places that used to inspire me. It’s the politics of the United States that’s driving me crazy.

Some things will never bother me, but some things always will. I really hate wading through political nonsense to get to the stuff that actually interests me.

It’s not that I have very many people reading what I write anyway. People tend to spend all their time on social networks these days and I can’t even say if it’s a bad thing or a good thing.

Politics and the News

Here’s something I used to like to do: Fire up Google News and browse through the headlines. I can’t even do that anymore. The weasels out there have figured out ways to squeeze politics into everything, even tech news.

Honest journalism is dead. The truth about what’s happening comes from outside of the mainstream media outlets like CNN and the alphabet networks.

Politics and Facebook

The only social network I spend any time on (and I spend as little time as possible) is Facebook. That’s only because my relatives and my family are on Facebook.

Today, I have over 600 Facebook friends. I think the only way that number is ever going to go down is if I start mass “unfriending” people. I rarely “unfriend” people but I’ve “unfollowed” a lot of people. Why? Because they keep posting things that are politically oriented and rarely post things of any value.

Politics and Real Friends

Some people have told me they’ve lost real friends over all the political nonsense. Well, if that’s the case, they weren’t real friends to begin with. Seriously. Real friends tend to think alike and that includes politics and religion.

I tell people all the time that I don’t need friends anyway. My wife, my children (and their spouses) and my grandchildren are enough for me.

Political Correctness

Politically correct speech is one of the worst things to ever happen to the United States. Someone (and I really can’t find the true source) said:

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

We need to say what we mean and mean what we say and stop worrying about who will get offended. In today’s America, there’s always someone getting offended by something. I’m offended by getting offended.
