There have been meal, grocery and product delivery services since as long as I can remember. Certain grocery stores have always delivered to the homes of the elderly and handicapped.
Many years ago, a Schwan’s truck delivered frozen food to my house in Phoenix, Arizona. If I remember correctly, it was mostly meat products and ice cream.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, entrepreneurs started delivery services to cater to those who simply had to stay home. Even after all the lockdowns have ended, these services will probably continue to flourish.
Meal delivery services are those that pick up and deliver orders from places that don’t offer their own delivery services. Here are a few of them:
Pardon the expression, but your mileage may vary. Whether they deliver to your area depends on how far away you are from the place you want to order from. Only one or two places deliver to my area through DoorDash because we’re not close to any city.
There are specialized services like Home Chef that provide custom meals, but at a price lower than what private catering would cost. Unfortunately, it’s not available where I live (even though they advertise here).
Grocery delivery services are mostly those that are offered by places other than the local grocery stores you normally shop at. Some online services specialize in delivering their own product list. Here are a few of both types I’ve found:
I have yet to attempt any of these. When I’m in the United States, I tend to do all of my grocery shopping at the local commissary, located near or on a local armed forces installation.
There are online services that obviously deliver their own products like Walmart and Home Depot. And then there are services that deliver products under a kind of umbrella, like Amazon.com. I’ve used them all at one time or another, by the way. Here are some sites that are somewhat similar:
As I do with other articles like this, I’ll try to keep it up-to-date.
You may notice I didn’t add services like pizza delivery services. I’m sure you can find out how to contact places like Domino’s, Little Caesar’s, Papa John’s and Pizza Hut on your own. I’ll probably never add places like these to the lists.
